What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom-made and bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They offer one of the most effective and minimally invasive ways to transform your smile — instantly correcting chips, cracks, gaps, stains, and minor misalignment without the need for extensive dental work.

At Mers Health Istanbul, our veneers are handcrafted by master ceramists using premium materials and advanced Digital Smile Design technology, ensuring each veneer is perfectly matched to your desired shade, shape, and natural tooth characteristics.

Types of Veneers We Offer

Porcelain Veneers

Handcrafted from premium dental porcelain, these veneers offer the most natural-looking and longest-lasting results. Porcelain's light-reflecting properties closely mimic natural tooth enamel, creating a beautiful, lifelike appearance. With proper care, porcelain veneers resist staining and maintain their brilliance for 15–20 years.

E-Max Veneers

Made from lithium disilicate ceramic, E-Max veneers represent the gold standard in aesthetic dentistry. They combine exceptional strength with beautiful translucency, making them ideal for front teeth where natural appearance is paramount. E-Max veneers are known for their precise color matching and durability.

Composite Veneers

A more affordable option that can often be applied in a single visit. While not as durable as porcelain (typically lasting 7–10 years), composite veneers offer excellent aesthetic results for patients seeking a quick and cost-effective smile enhancement.

Lumineers (No-Prep Veneers)

Ultra-thin veneers (approximately 0.3mm) that require minimal to no tooth preparation. Because little or no enamel removal is needed, the process is often reversible. Lumineers are ideal for patients who want a cosmetic enhancement while preserving maximum natural tooth structure.

The Veneer Process at Mers Health Istanbul

Day 1: Digital Smile Design & Consultation

We begin with a comprehensive examination, digital impressions, and clinical photographs. Using advanced smile design software, we create a detailed digital preview of your new smile — allowing you to visualize and approve every detail of shape, shade, and tooth proportions before treatment begins.

Day 2: Tooth Preparation & Temporary Veneers

Under local anesthesia, a thin layer of enamel (typically 0.3–0.5mm for standard veneers) is carefully removed from the front of each tooth. This minimal preparation creates the necessary space for the veneer while preserving maximum tooth structure. High-quality temporary veneers are immediately placed for both protection and aesthetic preview.

Day 3–5: Master Ceramist Fabrication

In our partner laboratory, skilled ceramists handcraft your veneers layer by layer — meticulously building up color, translucency, and surface texture to match your approved design. Each veneer undergoes rigorous quality checks before your final appointment.

Day 6–7: Bonding, Adjustment & Polishing

Your permanent veneers are carefully tried in, evaluated for fit and aesthetics, adjusted for perfect bite alignment, and then permanently bonded using specialized adhesive techniques. Final polishing ensures a smooth, natural surface that feels comfortable and looks brilliant.

Veneers vs. Crowns: What's the Difference?

Veneers cover only the front surface of a tooth with minimal enamel preparation, while crowns encase the entire tooth and require more extensive reshaping. Veneers are the preferred choice when the tooth structure is largely intact and the primary goal is cosmetic improvement — addressing color, shape, minor alignment, or surface imperfections. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is significantly damaged, weakened, or has undergone root canal treatment and needs full structural support.

Recovery & Aftercare

Veneer placement involves minimal discomfort. Mild sensitivity to temperature is common for the first few days but resolves quickly. To maximize the longevity of your veneers, we recommend maintaining excellent oral hygiene, avoiding biting hard objects directly, limiting highly pigmented foods and beverages in the first 48 hours, and attending regular dental check-ups every six months.
